Digital Corridor members raise money for local, educational nonprofit

Charleston, SC -- July 26, 2012 --The First Annual Corridor Classic cornhole tournament and cookout, held atFS2 on Saturday, July 21st, successfully raised funds for local nonprofit Teachers' Supply Closet. Created as a complement to the annualiFive:K run/walk/shuffle, the Corridor Classic provides yet another venue for Digital Corridor companies to network and enjoy friendly competition.

This year, twenty teams competed in the sold-out tournament, representing eighteen knowledge-based companies. Ian Jones and Chad Lanman of local technology company eGroup drove home a tight victory against the BoomTown Bombshells.

The Charleston Digital Corridor donated $1,000 of the proceeds to Teachers' Supply Closet which provides needed supplies to teachers at public schools where 88% of students receive free or reduced lunch.

"Selecting Teachers' Supply Closet as the beneficiary of the Corridor Classic was a natural extension of our focus on education. Students without school supplies cannot be expected to learn basic skills, much less those necessary to compete in tomorrow's economy," said Ernest Andrade, Director of the Charleston Digital Corridor.

"We are so thankful for the Digital Corridor and their commitment to children, their education and self-esteem. With the new school year fast approaching, this donation will help us accomplish our vision for all students in the Tri-county area to have the school supplies they need to succeed in school," exclaimed Deborah Halon, Executive Director of Teachers' Supply Closet . Sponsors of the Corridor Classic include Digital Corridor members Blue Acorn, BlueKey, BoomTown, eGroup, Environmental Express, Integral Solutions Group, Life Cycle Engineering and SPARC.
