Charleston, SC-- August 17, 2012 -- Inc. magazine announcedBiblioLabs is the No. 7 fastest-growing private Media company in the country, as ranked on the 2012 Inc. 500|5000 list. The company, based in Charleston, SC, made the exclusive list with a three-year growth rate of 1,111.9 percent. The list represents the most comprehensive look at the most important segment of the economy---America's Independent entrepreneurs.
"The last few years have been incredibly exciting, and we're glad to see the work pay off in achieving this ranking," said Andrew Roskill, Chief Executive Officer of BiblioLabs. "It's particularly satisfying to see us in such good company, sandwiched in between Facebook (No. 6) and Business Insider (No. 8) in the Media category. We're especially encouraged by our Revenue Per Employee (RPE) ranking, which is the second highest of any ranked media company and speaks to the scalability of our business model."
Started by the founders of BookSurge, which was later rebranded as CreateSpace after being acquired by Amazon.com, BiblioLabs works with leading organizations around the world, including the British Library, to create widespread commercial access to rare and interesting materials in innovative ways.
Last year, BiblioLabs created The British Library's 19th Century Historical Collection App, which made more than 65,000 British Library books easily accessible on the iPad and won the 2012 Publishing Innovation Award. Last week, BiblioLabs unveiled BiblioBoard, a free iPad(r) App that is changing the way the world accesses historical books and digital artifacts. Download BiblioBoard for free now in the App Store℠.
"We're particularly excited about what lies ahead for us. BiblioBoard provides consumers with a discovery platform where historical artifacts meet pop culture, giving users affordable access to content previously accessible only to researchers and academics, in a fun and engaging way," said Roskill. "Nuvique, our curation platform, allows subject matter experts and organizations the ability to curate and share their knowledge. Combined, they create a virtuous cycle and a global knowledge ecosystem."
The company is headquartered in the downtown Charleston Renewal Community and had the highest revenue per employee (RPE) of all ranked South Carolina companies, with 2011 revenue of $17.5 million and 15 employees.
"We are profitable, debt-free, and during the past year we have continued to invest our profits in growing the business. We have doubled our employee count since 2011, and I am glad we can play a part in creating high impact jobs for Charleston's tech and creative economy," said Mitchell Davis, Chief Business Officer of BiblioLabs "Right now is an electric time to be building a business in Charleston. We started BookSurge here, and Amazon has kept it local and now employs hundreds of people. When I look at what other start-ups are doing here, I realize we are seeing the emergence of Charleston as a global innovation hub."
Overall, BiblioLabs is ranked No. 338 among all the Inc 500|5000 companies nationwide.
