Social Media and Public Relations Company Promotes Staff

Step Ahead, Inc., a Charleston-based company that manages social media and public relations campaigns for businesses, recently promoted two staff members: Holly Fisher and Bailey Surrett.

Fisher, who previously served as an account executive and who has been with the company since 2008, has been named executive director of the company's Charleston office, located at 78 Alexander St. in new the Charleston Digital Corridor Flagship2 space. The company relocated after outgrowing their current space in the original Flagship at 475-A East Bay St. Fisher will head up day-to-day operations at the Charleston office, while company president Lyn Mettler oversees the launch of the company's new Indianapolis area office. Additionally, Fisher manages several client accounts, setting strategy for both public relations and social media.

Fisher, recently named a 2011 40 Under 40 by the Charleston Regional Business Journal, is a former newspaper reporter and editor who worked at newspapers in Ohio, West Virginia, Indiana, Texas and South Carolina. Most recently, she was the research editor for SC Biz News LLC, publisher of the Charleston Regional Business Journal and other business news publications in South Carolina. Fisher is active in and a member of many organizations, such as the Charleston American Marketing Association, Society of Professional Journalists, Charleston Young Professionals, Center for Women and more. She also volunteers her time with a number of nonprofits, such as Metanoia and the Ruth Rhoden Craven Foundation for Postpartum Depression Awareness. Fisher lives in Mt Pleasant with her husband, daughter and two dogs.

Surrett, who was administrative manager, is now account manager. The role includes managing several of the company's accounts, including Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort, as well as handling the day to day social media activity on clients' Facebook pages, Twitter accounts, blogs, Foursquare accounts, etc.

Prior to joining Step Ahead, Surrett served as a loaned executive for Trident United Way's 2010 campaign season where she helped them reach their $10 million goal. She earned a bachelor's in communication media from North Carolina State University. Surrett is involved with a number of non-profits in the area, including Louie's Kids, Trident United Way's Young Leader's Society and the Dee Norton Lowcountry Children's Center. She currently lives in Mount Pleasant.
